Snow Day!

Well, we got a sprinkling of snow yesterday!

So today Olivia and I attempted to make a snowman which was a big failure.  Dry, powdery snow WILL NOT make a snowman.

But, not all was lost.  We still got out and had some fun!

Sincerely,

Leigh

My New Year Realization

Notice I said realization and not resolution.

I took a bit of a hiatus from Jesus over the Christmas holiday.  It wasn't intentional.  It just sort of happened.

My Ladies' Home Group took a break, well, since so many of us were traveling or hosting family.

The morning Bible Study I've been attending took a break for all the same reasons.

I didn't serve at church for a few weeks.

We didn't go to church for a few Sunday's because the kiddos were sick.

I didn't even crack my Bible open for several weeks.  I was doing good if I finished a full prayer before I fell asleep at night.

Why?  Because I was busy?  Because it was Christmas?  Because I had better things to do?

Honestly, it was all of the above.

"God understands."  "It's Christmas for goodness sakes!"  "I'll have time to spend with Jesus tomorrow."  These are all things I said to myself.

Then the new year started, and it was time to get back into my routine.

Bible Study Wednesday mornings.  Serving Wednesday afternoons.  Home Group Thursday night.  Daily diving back into God's Word .

And something surprisingly hit me that week.  I was simply and quietly glad to be back with Him.  And I realized that I had felt spiritually dry for those weeks while on hiatus.  And it was odd, because during my "time off" I didn't notice myself feeling that way.  It wasn't until I got back in His presence that I realized how much I had needed Him for those weeks.

This is why I need a Savior.  Because I am weak, and He is strong.  I let my plans and my to-do lists take precedence over my relationship with Christ.    And this is why God is great, and God is good.  Because he didn't slap me over the head and say, "Hey, Big Shot, with your plans and your to-do lists!  After all I've done for you, this is how you show you're grateful?  You gonna spend time with me today, or what?"

No, he reminded me very quietly, and with open arms whispered to my heart, "Leigh, you are my daughter, and I've missed you the last few weeks.  I'm so glad to have you back."

And that's the Jesus I'm falling more and more in love with everyday as he changes me through His Word and through the community of people he's surrounded me with.  He loves to see his children come back to Him whether we've been gone for two weeks, 2 months, or 2 decades.

I'm blown away at how He continually covers me with grace and love even when my messed-up heart and actions say that my agenda is more important than His.  The more I spend time with Him, the more I know Him, and the more he changes my heart to be more like His.

It's good stuff!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Boy's Bedroom with Board and Batten: Reveal

Once again, Davis has a newly revamped room!

Here's where we started (minty green paint and all.)

After a good cleaning, paint and the addition of some simple board and batten, here's the after!

Davis is pretty smitten with the new, updated room, and I'm absolutely in L.O.V.E. with it!

The kiddos are in bed, so Kevin and I are going to have a little "date-night-in!"  We have lots of wii bowling in our future!!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Davis's Room Progress: Board and Batten

I'm experiencing an overwhelming sense of deja vu as this is the second time we've installed board and batten for Davis.

We followed the same method we used in his previous room.

All we have left is to paint the boards, and Olivia and I plan to do that tomorrow while Davis naps!  I hope it goes quickly!

It's not ALL work around these parts.  We still manage to get in plenty of play time!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Our New Year and Some Paint

Oh how I dread school starting back.  Kevin has had lots of time off, and we have all enjoyed sleeping in and staying in our PJs for the majority of the days!  It's been so nice, and I certainly don't look forward to hectic mornings and spending an hour and 20 minutes in the car everyday hauling Olivia to and from school.  Ugggggggghhhh.

We had a nice enough New Year.  I'm not complaining by any means, but I'm glad it's over!!  It's the whole "when it rains it pours" debacle.  I suppose it all started on Christmas Eve-Eve when we came home from church to find water in the kitchen floor.  Upon further inspection, Kevin found our garbage disposal to be busted.  So Kevin spent Christmas Eve morning at Lowes purchasing a new disposal, and then bringing that beauty home and installing it.  (Count that Round 1.)

Both Olivia and Davis have been sick this holiday.  Olivia woke up on Christmas day a little horse, and things went down hill from there.  She ran a fever for 4 days and just laid around not feeling well, then seemed to be better for a day or two.  And BAM!  Out of nowhere, had a fever of 103.6.  It's been the craziest virus.  Baby D is still battling it.  No more fever but still "gunky" and wheezy.

Kevin and Olivia took their annual outing to the fireworks store to get fireworks.  She was sooooo excited to shoot them, but she and D both had fevers New Years Eve night, so it was a NO GO for fireworks.  (Round 2)  Fortunately, everyone felt well enough to shoot fireworks the night of New Years Day.  We bundled up and enjoyed the magnificent show!  Olivia really know how to pick 'em!

And on January 2nd we mourned the loss of our hot water heater.  (Round 3).  The funny thing is, Kevin had just replaced both the garbage disposal AND hot water heater in our old house shortly before we sold it, and we've had to do the same in the short 9 months we've been in this house.  Go figure!

So all that aside, we are spending this weekend tackling Davis's room.  It's been on the "To Do List" since move in day.  The light mint green color just didn't suit the little guy and just made me cringe a little every time I walked in there.

We have temporarily relocated Davis into the guest room while we finish things up.

If anyone needs a hand with painting, Olivia is available!  In her own words, "It's fun to paint because you get to paint with paint!"

Yesterday, I got all the moldings cleaned, took down the blinds and scrubbed them down in the bathtub,  and wiped down all the doors.  With the addition of new paint, the room is oh so squeaky clean!  The blue color is Eddie Bauer Shale from Lowes, and the white is just Valspar's White in Satin straight off the shelf.  We're going to install board and batten on the lower 3/4 of the wall.

So that's our progress so far.  It seems as though we just did this for Davis's room.

Oh.  Wait.

We did!

And I LOVED THAT ROOM!  It was a labor of love, and leaving that sweet bedroom behind was the hardest part about leaving our old house.

Sincerely,

Leigh
