Thanksgiving 2013

We had such a lovely Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving.  Thankfulness.

Every night at bedtime, we start Olivia's night-night prayers with what she's thankful for.  I'm thankful for that little girl's thankful heart.  And thinking about that reminds me of what Jami Nato said here:

if you want to change the world, start small. start very, very small. very unimpressive.
like our savior coming, not born of a king's breed, not walking onto the planet as an amazing grown man. he came small and tiny in a barn to a regular old family.

but did you hear how he changed the world?

I pray for God to change my heart on a daily basis so that I will be the parent He intends for me to be.  I strive for Olivia and Davis to be rooted in the rock that is Jesus.  Never changing.

I pray for God's guidance in this everyday because I know that the world SCREAMS something very different.  Culture is constantly moving.  Always changing.  Dominated by entitlement.

I want to change the world.  Starting small.  Starting with the hearts of my children.  Training their hearts to swell with gratitude rather than entitlement.

Entitlement will and always does end badly.  The "it's all about me" mind set which acts on feelings rather than grace and truth.  By the way, one thing I've learned since following Jesus is that our feelings don't always tell the truth.  BAM.  That changed my world.  Did it change yours?

I'm also grateful for the love of family.

We hosted Thanksgiving here at our house this year with my family.

Kevin fried the turkey.  And that delectable smell obviously wafted through the entire neighborhood!  We had neighbors walking by at the mercy of their noses wanting to know when it would be time to eat!

Daddy supervised the turkey fry!

Olivia pointed to words in the dictionary and Nana read the definitions.  This is one of Olivia's favorite things to do with her Nana!

Sweet Baby D!

Friday, we took our 11th annual trip out to The Merry Christmas Tree farm to get our Christmas Tree.

At just 4 years old, Olivia is a tree-spotting prodigy!

We rounded out the trip with a stop at Starbucks for a holiday cup of Joe and a peppermint brownie cake pop!  Delish!

And, finally, today, we enjoyed our traditional spread of hors d'oeuvres while we decorated the tree!

We're looking forward to Christmas!

Electric City Glow Run: My First 5K!!

A personal victory!!  My first 5K!!

Saturday night marked the first annual Electric City Glow Run which benefitted Take Heart, a non-proffit that exists to connect churches and businesses to 3rd world communities to provide basic necessities of life and bring the life changing power of the gospel of Jesus.

About 300 runners came out for the cause!  It was a blast!

Olivia wished me lots of luck before I headed out!  (Before I left, she whispered to me that she wished she could go and watch me run.  *Too sweet!*)  But, unfortunately, the 5K started after after Olivia's bedtime.

This is my friend P!  She's a running machine!

And, as a bonus, P won first place in her age group (which is the "under 30s," of course!! ;) Right, P?!)   P finished at 29 minutes and some seconds.  PLUS, P won a raffle drawing and got herself a free round of golf for 4 peeps!!  Double winner!

Aaaannnnd....double bonus....I didn't leave empty handed either!  I won a round of golf for Kevin and the guys!  (You're welcome Keith, Tickle and John!!)  Kevin didn't even have to show up OR sweat and he came out a big winner!!

I had a lot of fun, and it was the perfect first race for me--everybody was laid back and having fun was the name of the game!  I ended up crossing the finish line at 32.3 minutes!  Daddy even made the trip out to watch me which was super sweet!  He kinda jokingly asked me, "Now, you're going to finish in under an hour, right?"  HAHAHAAAA!  "Yes, Daddy.  If I'm not back in 35 minutes, come look for me!" :)

Halloween 2013

We Tricked and Treated long after the sun went down!

Our first stop was at Publix (yes, we Trick-or-Treated at Publix!) with friends Ninja Turtle, Captain America and Genie!  Olivia was Prin-CESS Strawberry Shortcake which is totally made up but Olivia insisted on wearing a tiara with her dress...go figure!  And Davis was Mickey Mouse.

And the "horse trick-or-treaters" stole the show!  Apparently they are a staple around here at Halloween since all the neighbors seemed to be expecting them!  They followed us from house to house all around the 'hood just galloping and moseying along up and down driveways!  It was THE most awesome thing!  I just HAD to get a pic of them!

Davis was a real trooper.  He made it to about 6 houses, but, with hardly a nap to speak of all day, Kevin had to head back home with him and put him straight to bed.  Olivia and I finished up the neighborhood in time to get back home to give out candy to a few of our own trick-or-treaters!
