A Picnic Play-Date

Picnics are the norm around here.

Olivia loves to have picnic lunches out under the big, shade trees in our front yard. But today was a little treat for her. We met our friends and neighbors for lunch (picnic style, of course) and played in homemade bubbles and fed the ducks!

Our "friends from th' hood" Hampton and Hudson (and, not pictured, Mrs. Heather.)

Our homemade bubble solution consisted of:
1 part liquid dish soap
1/4 part light corn syrup
8 parts water
(Thank you Dixie Delights for the recipe!)
Mix and throw it in a mop bucket for "buckets" of fun!
(Nothing short of high-class around here!)

Olivia likes the ducks/geese to have whole pieces of bread.
There's no time for pinching off little pieces!

Olivia and Hampton also had fun playing on the roots of this tree (until, of course, the inevitable happened, and Olivia slipped and face-planted in the dirt!)

It was a fun play-date, ya'll! We'll do it again next week!

Hall Bath Update

Our hall bathroom (a.k.a. Olivia's bathroom) has been a thorn in my side for some time now for several reasons.
1. It's small
2. No window for sunlight to shine in
3. It's cramped when you're in the floor bending over the tub trying to scrub a wiggly little girl
4. It makes me claustrophobic
5. Hated the paint color (and I actually was the one to pick out the paint color and paint that bathroom after we moved into this house. I have hated it ever since.)

I knew I wanted something different in there but didn't know what. That was until I found this picture

Love this bathroom!! I immediately knew I wanted to copy this for Olivia's bathroom!!

So I hung bead board wallpaper from floor to ceiling. Kevin put up crown molding, and I painted the wallpaper, molding and doors all in a bright white. I changed out the silver knobs on the vanity to oil rubbed bronze knobs.

Here's Olivia's bathroom now...

I wanted to do more accessorizing (meaning I wanted to make a shelf/towel holder just like the one in my inspiration pic, and I wanted to make an initial picture to hang above the toilet just like in the inspiration) and I wanted to paint the vanity black, but I decided not to since our house is on the market.

Now, that little, claustrophobic bathroom is one of my favorite rooms in the house! It's super bright and cheery, and, all of a sudden, it doesn't seems so tiny! Amazing what a little inspiration can do!

Who Knew?

Olivia and I struck out this afternoon on a little errand run. I needed a few home improvement supplies (sandpaper, caulk, paint rollers) and household items (TP and paper towels) so unfortunately a trip to WalMart couldn't be avoided.

I was also on a mission to find three light-blue hand towels to finish accessorizing Olivia's newly revamped bathroom, so a quick trip to WalMart turned into an all out shopping marathon. After sprinting in and out of Target, TJ Maxx and Kohls with no luck, I gave up.

Here's the real kicker. As I put Olivia in her car seat just before heading home, I caught a glimpse of myself in the car window. It's important to note here that Olivia has been sick with a cold, so she's had a runny nose. So, anyway, in my reflection, I see what I thought was a big bump on my right cheek. When I got in the car, to my horror, I see what the "big bump" was. It was a huge, smeared and dried-up booger!! I can only guess that the booger was not my own and that it in fact belonged to the little girl I carried through all of Target, TJ Maxx and Kohls. Best part is that I don't know where or when that booger jumped onto my cheek, but I'm sure lots of people were thoroughly grossed out by it.
