It's Life Changing, I Tell Ya

I came across two things yesterday that were life changing.

First of all, these little thing-a-ma-jiggies. I picked these organizers up at Wal-Mart yesterday for $6 (I think) for a pack of 3. Best $6 that I've ever spent!!

They hold everything that I use on a daily basis, and everything is super duper accessible! Again, it's the smallest things that make me the happiest!

They were really easy to install. It required a level, drill for pre-drilling the holes and a screwdriver. I didn't use the screws that came with them because they were too long and would have protruded through the cabinet doors. Definitely didn't want that! So I used shorter screws that we already had.

~~I heart these!~~

And something else that I came across (completely unrelated to home improvement) was the Opt Out Prescreen website. This is a site that allows you to complete a form in order to "opt out" of credit/insurance preapprovals. Kevin and I are daily (and I mean EVERY. SINGLE. DAY) inundated with preapproval letters from credit card companies, and everyday, I have to open them, sort them, shred them, recycle them.

Soooo annoying!

Not to mention the fact that it's dangerous having those letters sitting around in your mailbox. All it would take is for someone to get their hands on one of them and be dishonest with it (i.e. get the credit card in our name and start using it unbeknownst to us.) So I completed the form online to stop the preapproval letters! The site says it may take a few weeks to see a reduction in the number of preapprovals being delivered to our mailbox, and that's OK with me. I'm overcome with anticipation for the day when the mailbox won't be overflowing with all that junk mail!

It's life changing I tell, ya. Life changing!!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Yet Another Update on the Bathroom

I love home improvement. I really do. But I also love when it's over. We still have lots to do, but now at least the end is in sight.

We were able to get a lot crossed off the "To Do" list this weekend.

Sinks are in and working beautifully!

Tile is up and grouted.

Shower door is hung!!

Kevin even managed to put in the new, double shower head! (I scored this one at Tuesday Morning for $30. Retails for $60.) You know I love a good deal!

I had hoped that we would get to the bead board, too, but the tile and shower door took way longer than I ever expected. So we'll work on that starting tonight! It will make a huge difference once it goes up!

Sincerely,

Leigh

My Pretty Little Dresser

I came across this dresser in the Pottery Barn catalog.

Remind you of anything??

This maybe??

The creamy white finish on the PB dresser is exactly what I want on my dresser!!

Oh, and by the way. The PB dresser is $699. Mine was $55!! It makes me smile.

Sincerely,

Leigh

Bathroom Reno: Update

Are we done yet??

I took some pics of the bathroom progress this morning.

Here's where we are:

I painted the walls and ceiling earlier this week!! I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but the ceiling is a faint shade of blue!! It will look even better when the crown goes up!

The paint colors are from the Lowes Creative Ideas collection.
Walls: Dove's Cry
Ceiling: Breezy Blue

I finally got the glass knobs put in this morning! 50% off at Hobby Lobby! Score!

I put all the towel racks, electrical covers, etc. back up yesterday! I spray painted everything in oil rubbed bronze. Looks good!

Sometimes the smallest things make me the happiest.
I hung these hooks on the back of the door, and we'll hang our towels on them. We used to hang our towels on hooks right outside the shower, but I like that they'll be hidden now!! Happy, happy, happy!

I got this cabinet yesterday at the Habitat ReStore!!
It needs tweaking--I don't like the extra wood that sticks up on both sides at the top. I'm thinking I'll just cut that off, add crown molding and glass knobs. It will be perfect! And for less than half the price of what I would have paid for a new cabinet this size!

Tonight and tomorrow, we'll work on getting the counter top, sinks and faucets installed. Hopefully by Friday night, we'll be able to brush our teeth in our own bathroom again!

Saturday, we'll work on tiling around the shower, tub and vanity and we want to get the shower door put in. Just try to guess how excited I am about having a shower door!! Can't wait!

This is our tile. I scored big time with this! It was on clearance at Lowes!

If all goes well, by Sunday we'll be able to get the bead board up on the shower/tub side of the bathroom! Whew! I'm tired already!

The unpainted area is where the tile/bead board will go!

Shower door and bead board waiting to go in!

If we can get all of the above accomplished this weekend, then all that will be left is:

1. Putting up crown molding
2. Painting bead board, crown molding and trim around window
3. Tweaking, painting and installing the over-the-toilet cabinet
4. Accessorizing!

5. Nursing a runny nose.

6. Repairing the carpet where the vacuum sucked up a tiny thread and pulled this HUGE run in the floor. I could have thrown the vacuum from here to the SC/GA state line! AHHHHHHHH!

Here's to a busy weekend!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Parents of a 2-Year Old

We had Olivia's birthday party this past Saturday.

She was suuuuuper-dooper excited about it and still talks about her party!

As for myself, I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that she's two! I know it's an age-old question, but where does the time go?

Just like last year at her 1st birthday party, I regret that we didn't get more pictures. I had told myself that I was going to be better about taking pictures at this party, but somehow it just didn't happen, again. I'm so sick at myself for that.

Olivia had a really good time! It's really touching to see how many people love that "Little Girl!" Thank you to everyone for making Olivia's second birthday a great one!

Sincerely,

Leigh

Bathroom Reno: Day Unknown

Progress in the bathroom has been slow the last few weeks.

Our weekends have been pretty busy, so there hasn't been much time to focus on the bathroom.

Kevin was able to get the counter top cut to size and get the holes cut out for the sinks. Here's a sneak peek at what it will look like...

And here's my #1 helper!!

She's gonna be 2 this week! Don't even ask me how that's possible. I don't want to talk about it.

She's really excited, though. All she talks about is her birthday party!!

Today, I'm sanding and poly-ing the counter top. This will take several days because it requires lots of coats. But it's sooo worth it! I'm really excited about how it's going to look! Can't wait to get it in the bathroom and hooked up and working!

Oh, and I made my first Craigslist purchase this weekend, too!! I've been looking for a dresser to put in our master closet. This one was posted on Saturday night, and by Sunday it was M.I.N.E.! For $55!!

I've been looking for just this type of dresser--small with spindly legs with 2 big drawers at the bottom and 2 half-sized drawers at the top!! And the legs have rollers on the bottom, too!! BONUS!! I love that!

It has dove-tailed drawers, and they work really well! SCORE!

The mirror attaches to the dresser! I think the mirror is sooo very pretty with the rounded top and sides!

I'm going to paint it white and put black knobs on it. I may even reuse the original knobs. I'm just not sure yet. But can't you just see it?? Imagine it being all cleaned up and painted a creamy white with black knobs!! Oh, and some pretty drawer liners inside the drawers! I'm thinking I'll put some of my shoes in the bottom drawer! And I want to put my jewelry box on top (my jewelry box that Shannon gave me a few Christmases ago that I just love!) It will be sooo pretty!! I can't wait :)

Sincerely,

Leigh
