Closing Out 2011

I hope everyone had an extraordinarily merry Christmas! We sure did!

Santa was good!

Food was good!

We were blessed with a holly, jolly-good holiday!

We spent Christmas morning at home--just the three of us. And we spent the evening with my fam at Nana's and Papa's doing the usual--eating, opening gifts, playing, and, of course, eating!

Olivia was almost buried alive by a mountain of gifts at Nana and Papa's!

This is actually Sarah's and Bradley's swing-set, but Olivia had fun playing on it!

As 2011 comes to a close, I wish everyone a delightful New Year!

On the Menu

This Christmas Eve we will be spending the day relaxing, tracking Santa through NORAD and enjoying a scrumptious pre-Christmas dinner.

On the menu tonight is:

Roast Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Ragout

The Pioneer Woman's from scratch Green Bean Casserole

Thyme Roasted Potatoes

White Chocolate Fudge Cake

Now, it's no secret that I'm not a baker. I lack the patience for baking. Baking creates a huge mess. And I just don't have the kitchen for baking (no room.)

So what did I do??

I baked. A cake. A big cake!

I have no idea what it tastes like, but it comes with super high reviews! So we'll see!

Wishing everyone a Christmas filled with warmth and joy!

What's Going On?

My coffee maker blew-up yesterday. Literally. Blew-up. Smoke 'n' all.

No coffee today.

Unless I make a run to Dunkin, but that would mean I have to get out of my robe. Ugggghhhh!

So, anyway. Olivia and I made our Gingerbread House yesterday morning. That means the burnt, smokey smell from the expired coffee pot was replaced by the delicious smell of warm gingerbread and sugary icing! Yummm.

So that's what's going on over at our house. Well...that and trying to get Olivia to use the pot-tay. What a wonderful Christmas present that would be!!

Just Us Chicks (and the Snowmen)

Since it's just the girls tonight, Olivia and I decided to make Marshmallow Snowmen using the instructions in our new C&B cookbook!! This also provided us the perfect opportunity to utilize our new Christmas mixing bowls as well!

Olivia was so excited about making snowmen that she donned her very own version of snowman attire (a hat and scarf!)

I set up our ingredients, and we went to work!

Well, I worked. Olivia ate marshmallows.

So after a big bowl of homemade vegetable soup, Olivia enjoyed one of these guys for dessert!

It's late.

I'm tired.

But I just wanted to give you guys a little peak at all the fun Olivia's been having!

Christams Traditions

Saturday marked our 8th annual trip to the Merry Christmas Tree Farm to seek out the perfect Christmas Tree.

This is the beauty that will grace our home with its continual holiday splendor right into the new year.

Once selected, Kevin merrily chopped it down.

Olivia insisted on helping!

After the tree was shaken, wrapped, purchased, and loaded in the truck, we hit the tree fields for a few rounds of playful hide-and-seek.

Lots of hugs!

Amazing Grace

Kevin and I were baptized at church this past Sunday. You can watch it here. (In "The Life of Job" series under week #5. Our baptism starts about 17 minutes into the service if you want to FF.)

I'm very grateful to have taken my next step and glad that Kevin and I took this step together.

Thanks to Mama and Daddy for getting up extra early to be there. It made the occasion that much sweeter.

And thanks to Heather and Josh for getting four boys up and ready for the early service on Sunday so you could be in attendance. Lots of hugs to you, Heather, for taking these pictures!!

This Thanksgiving (and everyday after) I'll be most grateful that God was passionate enough to be patient with me for 31 years.

Yeah. Pumpkins.

Olivia suffers from Cucurbitophobia (fear of pumpkins.) It's very serious.

You know when you cut the top off the pumpkin to expose its innards?? Well...this. freaked. her. out.

She wanted NO part of the pumpkin guts or seeds; therefore, she wanted no part of participating in the pumpkin carving. Go figure!

And now I'm having trouble uploading our pumpkin pics. Wonderful. No pictures.

Yeah for pumpkins.

Dear Allison,

"Dixie Delights" is a blog that I read about everyday. The girl that writes it lives in Atlanta and she's just a couple of years older than me. She is fabulously Southern. Her house and decor are to. die. for! She has two little boys.

This poem is on her blog today. I thought is was simply beautiful--little boys being ever so slowly transformed into tomorrow's men. Leaders of families, hands and feet for Christ, strong fathers for yet another generation. If I had a son, this would be my inspiration everyday as I mothered and nurtured him. I love this!

From the book Footprints of a Pilgrim by Ruth Bell Graham:

He must be so tall when he is on his knees, as one has said, he reaches all the way to Heaven.
His shoulders must be broad enough to bear the burden of a family.
His lips must be strong enough to smile,
firm enough to say no,
and tender enough to kiss.
His love must be so deep that it takes its stand in
Christ and so wide that it takes in the whole world.
He must be big enough to be gentle
and great enough to be thoughtful.
His arms must be strong enough to carry a little child.

I thought I'd pass this along to you for Bradley!

Hope ya'll are having a great weekend!

Love you,

Hold Your Nose!

Olivia went poops in the pot-tay today! First time ever! I was a little surprised when I saw it since she told me she had pee-pees to put in the potty. My initial response was, "Yeah!! What a good girl!" But then I realized I had to clean it out of the "little" potty. UGHHHH! Not fun. Either way, whether in the diaper or in the "little" potty, it's still a gross mess to clean up.

The wind is whipping here tonight. Tomorrow is trash day, so I've already put our big trash can out at the end of the driveway (you just never know when the trash guys are going to show up on Thursdays. It could be at 7:20am or 7:20pm.) I bet the wind has blown that trash can half way down the street by now. That would be a special treat since Olivia suffered from diarrhea Monday and Tuesday and the trash is full--I mean full--of unspeakable grossness.

I just thought I would share!

Hardy Berry Farm

Yesterday was October 1st! It's officially pumpkin time!

In true fall fashion, we celebrated the coming of October at Hardy Berry Farm's Play Patch!

We spend the day hay ridin', pumpkin pickin', pillow bouncin', grain-sack slidin', corn maze hunting and just plain-ol' wearing ourselves out in true South Cackalacky style. We all had a blast!
